Allium hollandicum Purple Sensation
The RHS Award of Garden Merit
A selection was made from Allium aflatunense by Mr J. Bijl in 1963 to produce this deep coloured strain. Some of the production of this plant is from seed which results in some variation in the plant. The stock we offer is from clonal material and should be less variable. The growth, flowering time and other characteristics are just as A. aflatuenense, but the flower colour is very much darker, an intense deep purple. It can be grown very effectively with blue or cream coloured Camassia leichtlinii semi plena, hardy geraniums or Alchemilla mollis. Deep purple flowers in May 30” (75 cm) tall.
Planting instructions
Cover the bulb with 3-4” (7.5-10 cm) of soil in a sunny situation and a well drained soil. Allow 6” (15 cm) between bulbs and plant without excessive regimentation. Lovely with pale green leaved plants, and blue or purple flowers.
