Alstroemeria ligtu hybrids
The Peruvian Lily is native to Chile, Peru and western Brazil. Alstroemeria seeds were first collected by the Swedish naturalist and friend of Linnaeus, Clas Alstömer on an expedition to South America in 1753. The ligtu hybrids will give many shades of pastel from apricot, cream, yellow and white flowers . They provide a lovely rambling aspect in the sunny border or as a cut flower in June/July to 24"-36" (60-90cm) tall .
Planting instructions
Plant 5" deep, on a gravelly cushion. Best planted in a warm sheltered and sunny site to establish themselves. Slugs find the young shoots irresistible! It will grow in well drained soil or heavier soils provided they are not waterlogged. It is hardy but may need some protection during the coldest of winters. In colder areas it will benefit from planting near a south facing wall.
