Amaryllis belladonna purpurea major
Our range of these beautiful South African bulbs is probably unique in the UK. The long trumpet-shaped and sweetly scented flowers rise magically from the bare ground on their tall stems in the early autumn. Best at the base of a south-facing wall outside where the reflected heat aids flowering (in winter protect foliage with bracken or straw), or in deep pots on a sunny porch or in a conservatory. These flower in September to a height of 20" (50cm).
These bulbs are lifted as required for orders. The process of lifting them may reduce their flowering potential this year and, in September if there are buds on the bulbs we will if possible send them intact unless they get too long for the box. Please don't confuse these with Hippeastrum, which flower at Christmas in pots in the house.
Planting instructions
Choose a sunny, drier, sheltered site, possibly among paving, against a sunny wall or in a cool enclosure.
These bulbs will be despatched from mid August for planting in late Summer
