The RHS Award of Garden Merit is awarded for ease of cultivation, excellence and constitution but not necessarily hardiness. Small bulbs of seemingly insignificant potential but don't be deceived! Probably not really hardy over much of the UK but they produce lots of seed which in well drained soils survives and flowers the next summer. Cheerful bright-orange flowers with darker markings, sometimes white flowered. Summer flowering to 9" tall. The flowers produce brown capsules containing bright red seeds in the autumn.
Planting instructions
Plant in a warm sunny spot with light soil and free drainage. Would be good in a rockery. Plant 2"-3" deep.
