Welcome to Avon Bulbs
Quality, value and great service guaranteedIris unguicularis (stylosa)
The hardy Iris stylosa or "Algerian" iris with which most are familiar. They thrive in sunny sites sheltered from cold winds. The flowers are often hidden within the protection of the leaves but make good table decoration if gently picked just before the buds burst. New roots are formed in autumn and the divisions we supply must be planted on receipt and watered in well. In our experience autumn is the most opportune time to move them. While they can tolerate appalling growing conditions they will do much better in good soils particularly with a big soak and feed in August or September. Their care is otherwise very simple; leaving some foliage to protect the flowers, pull away any dead matter and tolerate a little untidiness; you will be rewarded . You will receive good-sizes divisions from us and most will flower in the first winter.
