Camassia leichtlinii Magdalen
Camassias of different sorts grow in the wild in great numbers in moist meadows in the western USA. C. leichtinii grows prinicipally in mountain meadows, and prefers full sun, although it tolerates partial shade fairly well. C. leichtinii Magdalen is a lighter blue form of leichtlinii, and comes into flower a week before it. In the garden it needs moisture through out the spring and early summer, and is very happy in heavier soils. They like a moist spring and flowering, followed by a dry dormancy. Let the leaves start to lose colour before cutting them back. They prefer not to be disturbed once established.
Planting instructions
Plant them about 4-6” (10-15cm) deep, 9” (22.5cm) apart in groups of 5 or more in a humus-rich, moisture retentive soil, in a sunny position, which will not dry out over the summer
