Order Code: 14-6
Crinum moorei
The RHS Award of Garden Merit is awarded for ease of cultivation, excellence and constitution but not necessarily hardiness. C.moorei is a native of the forests of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and is one of the parents of the hybrid forms more commonly available. C.moorei might need careful siting in colder areas but are worth the effort. The broad petals are pearly white with a tinge of pink, more fluted and very fragrant with a graceful habit.
Planting instructions
These may need more careful location in cold areas but for more sheltered sunny sites a most welcome addition to the late summer show as they will flower well in a sunny warm site with summer moisture. They are sometimes hesitant to flower after being moved so perhaps bulbs will be a year off flowering, despite their size. Plant outside 12" deep or in big pots planted 6" deep, in rich moist soil, in a sheltered sunny site.
There are literature reports that all parts of the plants can cause severe discomfort if ingested, contact with the sap may irritate the skin.
