Crocus chrysanthus Herald
Flowering a little earlier than other C. chrysanthus forms, this primrose yellow crocus has a deeper yellow heart, and the outer petals are plum purple with a small yellow edge. Raised by Mr W R van Eaden in Holland. The species is found in Turkey and the Balkans in meadows and hillsides, amongst grass and light woodland. In a garden it likes a sunny position, with good drainage, and poor to moderately fertile soil, where it will not be disturbed by cultivation.
Planting instructions
Plant 8-10 cm (3-4in) deep in a small tight groups, 2 or 3 bulbs only 1.5” apart repeated at larger intervals. Do beware mice and squirrel attack. Full sun and gritty, well drained soil.
