Refined pale pink flowers over dark mottled leaves.
Order Code: 84-12
Erythronium hendersonii
Native to Oregon and NW California, these grow naturally on wooded slopes, and so do best in partial shade that dries out in summer. In spring each stem grows up to 10 pale lilac flowers 2” (5cm) across with dark purple centres and purple anthers, contrasting well with the wavy-margined mottled dark-green leaves. Unusually for Erythroniums, the flower is lightly fragrant.
Planting instructions
Handle the long, brittle tubers gently, do not let the tubers dry out and plant in a cool, well-drained position where it will not become sun-baked in summer. Plant 3- 4” (8-10cm) apart under shrubs and trees, where roots will take away excess moisture in summer. Succeeds in almost any light soil, preferring one that is rich in humus.
