South African in origin and commonly named the Pineapple Plant as the topknot of leaves above the flower head does resemble that fruit. They appear above the ground only after the frosts have gone and go dormant with the first autumn frosts so when planted deeply can be regarded as being hardy in most of the UK. Luminous yellowy green flowers (without dark markings and pale stemmed) lasting for ages both in flower then as a dramatic bold green textured seed head. Ideal for pots. August / September to 18".
Planting instructions
Plant in well prepared soil in a sunny position 5" deep and 6" apart or in pots. Water well in dry summer conditions.
