Impressive garden form with white, green or pink-flowers.
Order Code: 21-8
Eucomis comosa (punctata)
South African in origin and commonly named the Pineapple Plant as the topknot of leaves above the flower head does resemble that fruit. They appear above the ground only after the frosts have gone and go dormant with the first autumn frosts so when planted deeply can be regarded as being hardy in most of the UK. For garden or very large pots. Variable in colour, white, green or pink flowered and in any combination, occasionally dark stemmed which is very dramatic. Very attractive to butterflies and hoverflies. After flowering many have interesting seed heads that colour up to provide their own interest. These are probably the most impressive form for the garden. August /September 24"-28".
Planting instructions
The bulbs are fist sized and most should flower in the summer following planting. Plant deeply in a sunny spot in well prepared soil in the garden or in big well watered pots. Allow 2' spread.
