A diminutive speckly leaved and dark flowered species.

Eucomis vandermerwei
South African in origin and commonly named the Pineapple Plant as the topknot of leaves above the flower head does resemble that fruit. A species plant, and one of the smallest in the genus. The leaves have noticeably wavy edges and are heavily speckled in purple. The flowers are purple with yellow anthers. . August-September flowering ,6" tall.
Planting instructions
Probably not best suited to the open garden unless the circumstances are just right, though would look well in the front of a gravel bed in the sun or being grown in a raised bed or in a container so that they can be admired more closely. Best grown in pots growing outside in summer sunshine to get darker colours. Good well prepared soil, water in the summer. August / September 6"
