Iris missouriensis
Iris missouriensis was named in the mid 19th century, but had long been used medicinally by indigenous peoples from British Colombia to S California. The “Rocky Mountain Iris” grows in moist meadows, and needs very wet conditions prior to flowering, preferably followed by drought. In June and July the flowers are about 3” (8cm) across with light blue falls, strongly lined in purple, and light lavender blue standards, very erect, and they are usually held just above the leaves. A meadow plant of moisture retentive soil, possibly even a bog garden in full sun, perhaps one to use after the Camassia begin to die down. Flowering in June /July to 15" tall.
Planting instructions
Plant in moisture retentive soil, perhaps a bog garden, in full or part sun.
