The RHS Award of Garden Merit is awarded for ease of cultivation, excellence and constitution but not necessarily hardiness. Adding some excitement, height and colour in the late summer the Knifophia family especially suit those who garden on soils that dry out in summer - they are very drought tolerant plants and love the sun! These will be supplied as diisions, dug fresh from our stock beds. Orange flowers appear from green buds in July and through August at about 4-5 ft, taller than many with quite coarse foliage. It is a strong grower, so allow it some space to produce large mounds of foliage eventually.
Planting instructions
Plant into drained but fertile soil and water in. Best in fairly full sun and in warmer soils, watering them in the late spring and early summer as they establish and remember some slug pellets around the area 'in case' and wait for the summer flourish. If you are planting more than one plant them about 14" apart, and if different varieties a little further away from one another.
