The RHS Award of Garden Merit

Dating back to 1923. Early flowering, but often not February, though more likely nowadays.  'February Gold' looks stunning when planted in bold groups. It has bright yellow blooms, with outer petals that are slightly swept back from the darker yellow trumpets. It is also good for pots or tubs. These early daffodils have particular interest for us. They have a quaintness and informality that is largely lost in modern daffodil breeding, yet they have stood the test of time having been at their peak of popularity in Victorian times. Many more remain to be rediscovered and loved again. Golden yellow flowers in February/March at 12” (30cm) high.

Planting instructions

Plant them really quite deeply with 5-6” (12-15cm) of cool rich soil over the bulb in sun or part shade, where it will remain more cool, more moist and safer from activity above them in the summer. Do not be tempted to cut back or tidy the foliage after flowering – this period of replenishment of the bulb's starchy food reserves is critical to future flowering. A liquid feed while starchy leaves are still green will benefit clumps in poorer soil. I would suggest you plant them in distinct groups and not randomly – the effect is generally better. They should clump up from being planted about 4-6" (10-15cm) apart, further apart for more 'relaxed' planting.
