Jumping out of a small plane at 15 000 ft in January might seem pretty foolhardy, but if you have never been in a plane before it may seem doubly so but that is what Tom Brister of Avon Bulbs did on 31st of January to raise money for Diabetes UK.  It was freezing at ground level at 8.30 on Sunday 31 January when Tom arrived at Dunkerswell Airfield for the briefing and the instructors thought that at 15 000 ft it might be 30^oC below freezing. Tom put on a brave face along with his jump suit but with the flight to 15 000 ft taking 20 minutes it left plenty of time for the nerves kick in even more strongly. As It was Tom's first jump he was strapped to Jason his instructor and they were last but one out of the plane, following two other tandem jumpers and a few other solo jumpers. Despite the cold, the descent was fantastic with great views of the frosted fields below and the landing was pinpoint on a relatively windless morning. Tom was very happy to be back on terra firma  where he was congratulated by Angela Lodge, Diabetes UK fundraising coordinator in Somerset.
