Early Harvest is a multicoloured “Water Lily” tulip, in shades of red, gold and orange, with yellowish margins and bronze green basal marks. A kaufmanniana hybrid with greigii, it has rounded petals, rather than the normal kaufmanniana which has pointed tips, but the leaves are large, and mottled with magenta, a sign of its greigii parentage. Kaufmannianas are the first tulips to flower and Early Harvest is the earliest – even before its buds open, they are beautiful and bright enough to colour the garden. It stands 8” to 10” (20-25cm) tall, and likes to be in full sun, though a touch of shade can be tolerated. It can remain in the ground for several years.
