The species tulips from the families T. linifolia, T. maximoviczii, T. clusiana & T. batalinii are all closely related and will all cross pollinate. The species T. linifolia occurs in Iran, Uzbekistan & Turkestan (First described by Regel 1884). They are a splendid and showy small tulip with bowl shaped scarlet red flowers with pointed tips, opening flat in bright sunlight to show a dark base to the flower. The leaves are grey-green with wavy edges and fairly distinctive fine red margins. Flowering plants are about 6” (15cm) tall in early May.
Planting instructions
A very satisfactory small tulip for the sunny well drained garden where they would be planted 3” (7cm) deep and about 2-4” (5-10cm) apart. Or allow 15 per square foot. Beware of squirrel or mice damage.
