Tulipa Little Beauty
The RHS Award of Garden Merit
Tulipa hageri 'Little Beauty' is a dwarf species tulip, believed by some to be a garden form of T. humilis so that 'Little Beauty' is sometimes listed under that species. Others think that T. hageri is synonymous with T. orphanidea, the latter having sundry colour variants, clones, or natural hybrids that could be mistakenly regarded as distinct species. Whatever the real picture is, Little Beauty is a very short stemmed tulip 5” (12cm) tall with pink buds in March followed by a multi-coloured flower. The centre is deep blue, surrounded by a white zone leading to bright fuschia pink. The exterior is cherry red. A bulb may have up to four flowers and need reasonably bright conditions to open fully.
Planting instructions
It grows and persists in well drained and sunny conditions where it would be planted 3” (7cm) deep and 3-4” (7-10cm) apart, taking care to protect from hungry mice or squirrels.
