One of the Fosteriana group of Tulips, originating in central Asia, which are also known as the “Emperor Tulips”. Tulipa Orange Emperor has huge, wide petals, tangerine with greenish markings on the outside and stronger orange with a yellow centre inside. The blooms can measure 10” (25cm) when fully opened out and are slightly scented. Tulipa Orange Emperor flowers in March/April for three weeks, so it can make a good foil for daffodils. Follow them with later flowering orange tulips such as Ballerina for a continuing orange theme. The strong stems, about 16” (40cm) high, with bright green leaves, can withstand wind, and help make the flower a focal point in the garden, whether border, raised bed or in pots. The bulbs will naturalise in a position they enjoy.
Planting instructions
Plant in a sunny position in well-drained, fertile soil, at about 6” (15cm) deep, in groups of 5 or more, about 7 per sq foot. AGM.
