Carrying cream coloured flowers these are a variegated form with a bold cream coloured edge to the leaf in the spring before they flower, this nicely accentuates what is (in Camassia generally) not very interesting foliage. The name honours a native American Indian woman who saved the starving explorers on the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1805 as they crossed America east to west (and back again) for the first time, feeding them the native ‘quamash’ bulbs. Again several weeks later into flower than Camassia leichtlinii caerulea.

Planting Instructions

Camassia leichtlinii Sacajawea bulbs should be planted about 5" (12cm) deep and 9" (23cm) apart in groups of 5 or more in a humus-rich, moisture retentive soil, in either a sunny position or in half shade. If you do not want them to seed about remove the flower head after flowering.
