The 'bulbs' are very scale-like and as suggested by the name more like lily bulbs. They produce short broad leaves which are a feature of the plant in themselves, attractively spreading low to the ground with the white flower appearing from their centre. The bulbs should not be allowed to dry out whilst out of the ground which means that these are plants that are not widely available, though they probably should be. Originally From southern France and northern Spain but hardy here and an attractive addition to shaded woodland conditions giving early spring interest.
