Midas was found in the same week that we held the 'Immortals' lunch party here in February 2011. This was an event to which we asked everyone that we could identify after whom a snowdrop had been named to come and celebrate this achievement. The seedling Midas, then a first flowering seedling in our copse, was hidden under an upturned pot from the eagle eyes of all these discerning visitors !
It is one of the fabled colour change snowdrops – the green tips to inners and outers turn to a glowing golden yellow a few days after first opening. This x valentinei hybrid is best in some sun.
Plant the bulbs immediately. If planting them in the ground use the smallest size of aquatic mesh pots to aid containment and identification. Fill with improved soil based potting medium and a little sharp sand. Label carefully and water sparingly until autumn.
