Fully double with blackish purple petals. May need staking in windy gardens. They are plants of open sunny situations in well drained soil and are hardy but annual, so you will be reliant on falling (or collected) seed for future years. Self fertile but some slight variation in flower colour may occur.
Sow directly but thinly into a seedbed in the selected site in autumn, keeping some seed back for a successive sowing in the early spring. Poppy seed heads are poisonous (though poisoning is rare)
Height 36" (90cm)
