Tulipa sprengeri is a May flowering species tulip (one of the very latest to flower), that is now unknown in the wild. It is red flowered, often golden marked on the outside and with contrasting golden anthers.
Sow reasonably thinly in a deep seed tray in the summer, and plunge in the ground in shade to grow without disturbance until the the bulbs that form are large enough to transfer, then plant (with as much soil as possible) 2-3" (5-8cm) deep in part shade where they will not be disturbed again. Or sow them where you want them to grow and they will do all this themselves! May take 3-4 years to reach flowering size, so avoid disturbance in the area. Once flowering they will set seed, so don't deadhead them! Bulbs will flower when they are grape sized or larger.
