Tulipa sprengeri is a May flowering species tulip that is now unknown in the wild. It is red flowered, often verdigris marked on the outside with contrasting golden anthers.
Sow reasonably thinly in a deep seed tray and plunge in the ground in shade to grow without disturbance until the the bulbs that form are large enough to transfer, then plant (with as much soil as possible) 2-3" (5-8cm) deep in part shade where they will not be disturbed again. May take 3-4 years to flower so avoid disturbance in the area. Once flowering will set seed.
