The Plantfinder suggests that Bomarea edulis is a synonym for Bomarea salsilla. The latter however (according to Kew) comes from southern Chile and Bomarea edulis from most of the northern half of South America, but not Chile so I am confused. A summer growing climber in the Alstroemeria family. In winter they go dormant to a tuber below ground and if planted deeply and mulched they seem to be hardy enough in warmer areas. Otherwise a fab conservatory climber. Supplied as tubers.

Planting Instructions

Plant 4" (10cm) deep in a sandy or loamy free draining soil. Hardy in the south of England we think, but happy in a large pot so they could be brought into more shelter in the winter. Summer growing and fast growing so needing something to support the growth which may need tying in a little. If in a pot they will need require watering and infrequent feeding. they can reach 5' (1.5 m) and flower in the late summer. Mulch outdoor grown plants in the late autumn.
