Members of the ginger family with broad Canna-like leaves, though much shorter. Hardy here but dwindling due to excessive summer heat  They are happier in some shade (as in the fernery at Rosemoor) where it remains more humid. Yellow and orange flowers highlighted by red bracts. Bare roots packed in coir.

Planting Instructions

Plant the roots 4" (10cm) deep in good soil with adequate summer moisture about 12" (30cm) apart. Better in mixed plantings or a bit of shade so that the leaves are not scorched by the sun in the summer. Grow in a shaded mixed border or in a woodland setting.  Red and yellow flowers with ginger scents flowering in the summer about 18" (45 cm) tall.
