Lavender ‘Great Adventure’ is a gorgeous, modern lavender that brings big colour, big scent and big impact to the garden. Expect richly fragrant, nectar-filled flower spikes in vibrant purple tones held above neat, silvery-green foliage — the sort of plant that instantly makes a border look “finished”. It’s perfect for edging paths, filling sunny pots, weaving through gravel gardens, or planting in bold drifts for that classic Mediterranean feel.

As well as looking stunning, lavender is a hard-working plant too: it’s drought tolerant once established, thrives in poor, free-draining soils, and is one of the very best plants for bees and butterflies. The flowers are also brilliant for cutting — pop fresh stems into small posies, or dry them to enjoy that lavender perfume indoors for months. Plant it somewhere you’ll brush past it (near a gate or walkway) and you’ll release the aroma every time you pass.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring or early autumn while the soil is warm and workable. This helps lavender establish strong roots before winter or summer heat.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, sheltered position with free-draining soil. Lavender loves light, sandy or chalky soils and dislikes sitting wet in winter. Ideal for paths and edging, mixed borders, gravel gardens, pots and containers, and wildlife-friendly planting.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant at the same depth as in the pot, with the top of the compost level with the soil surface.
  • Spacing: Space 35–45 cm (14–18 inches) apart for good airflow and a tidy, mounded shape.
  • Soil Prep: Avoid rich composts—lavender prefers lean soil. On heavy ground, improve drainage with grit or sharp sand and consider planting on a slight mound.

Watering:
Water well after planting. For the first few weeks keep watering regularly, then reduce. Once established, lavender is drought tolerant and only needs watering in prolonged dry spells (especially in pots).

Aftercare Tips:

  • Trim after flowering to keep plants compact (remove spent flower stems and lightly shape the foliage).
  • Avoid cutting into old, woody stems—always leave some green growth when pruning.
  • In colder or wetter areas, good drainage is key—lavender dislikes wet feet in winter.

Top Tip:
For the strongest scent and the most flowers, keep lavender in full sun and don’t overfeed. Plant near seating areas or pathways so you can enjoy the fragrance, and leave some blooms for the bees—lavender is a true pollinator magnet.
