Anemone blanda ‘Charmer’ is a delightful little spring-flowering anemone, loved for its daisy-like blooms in soft pink-lilac tones with a bright centre. It’s perfect for naturalising, creating cheerful carpets of colour at the front of borders, under shrubs, in rock gardens, or even in pots. Despite its delicate look, it’s a hardy, low-maintenance bulb (tuber) that quietly multiplies over time—so you get more flowers each year for very little effort.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring as soon as the soil is workable. For best results, soak the tubers in lukewarm water for 2–4 hours before planting to help them sprout more quickly.

Where to Plant:
Choose a spot in sun or partial shade with well-drained soil. Anemone blanda is ideal for naturalising in grass or woodland edges, under shrubs, rock gardens, front of borders and containers. It prefers soil that doesn’t stay wet in winter.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant tubers about 5 cm (2 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space 5–8 cm (2–3 inches) apart, or scatter and plant in informal drifts for a natural look.
  • Soil Prep: Add grit to heavy soil to improve drainage. A little compost is fine, but avoid overly rich, wet ground.

Watering:
Water after planting to settle the soil. Keep lightly moist while shoots appear, then water only if conditions are very dry during growth.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering—this feeds the tubers for next year.
  • Once established, Anemone blanda will naturalise and come back reliably each spring.
  • In pots, keep compost just moist during growth, then drier once foliage dies back.

Top Tip:
Plant Anemone blanda ‘Charmer’ in generous drifts for the best impact. It looks especially lovely paired with early Narcissus, Muscari and other spring bulbs for a layered display.
