Anemone ‘St. Brigid’ is a real treat for spring and early summer, producing large, ruffled, semi-double to double blooms in a dazzling mix of colours (often reds, blues, purples, pinks and whites). The flowers have a beautifully “flouncy” look with a striking dark centre, and they’re brilliant for adding colour to borders, raised beds and patio pots. They’re also outstanding cut flowers—long-lasting, cheerful and perfect for picking little and often. Plant the tubers in spring and enjoy weeks of bloom as the weather warms up.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring as soon as the soil is workable. For best results, soak the tubers in lukewarm water for 2–4 hours before planting to help them sprout more quickly.

Where to Plant:
Choose a spot in full sun (or light shade) with well-drained soil. Anemone ‘St. Brigid’ is ideal for mixed borders, cutting gardens, containers and patio pots. They prefer a sheltered position and soil that doesn’t stay wet for long periods.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant tubers about 5 cm (2 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with grit to ensure good drainage. A little compost is fine, but avoid waterlogged ground.

Watering:
Water after planting to settle the soil. Keep the soil lightly moist while shoots appear, then water during dry spells while the plants are growing and flowering.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers and keep plants tidy.
  • For the longest display, pick flowers often—cutting encourages more blooms.
  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the tubers for next year.
  • In colder or wetter areas, consider growing in pots so tubers can be kept drier over winter.

Top Tip:
For the best cut flowers, pick stems when the buds are just starting to open. Plant Anemone ‘St. Brigid’ in groups for a bold, colourful display—it looks amazing mixed with tulips and forget-me-nots in spring planting schemes.
