Astilbe ‘Hot Pearls’ is a fabulous perennial for bringing bright, fluffy plumes of colour to shadier parts of the garden. It produces eye-catching flower spikes in vivid pink tones (with that classic “feathery” Astilbe look) held above attractive, fern-like foliage. It’s perfect for lifting mixed borders, brightening woodland-style planting, and adding a soft, romantic feel around ponds or in consistently moist areas. Astilbes also make lovely cut stems, and the foliage stays neat and textural long after flowering.
If your garden has a spot that gets a bit less sun but holds moisture well, ‘Hot Pearls’ is an absolute winner.
When to Plant:
Plant in spring or autumn, while the soil is moist and workable. Container-grown plants can be planted at most times of year, avoiding frozen or waterlogged conditions.
Where to Plant:
Choose a position in partial shade (or light sun if the soil stays reliably moist) with moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Astilbe is ideal for shady borders, woodland planting, along streams or ponds, and moist mixed borders. Avoid very dry soil and hot, baking sun.
How to Plant:
Watering:
Water well after planting and keep the soil consistently moist, especially in the first season and during dry spells. Astilbes do not like drying out.
Aftercare Tips:
Top Tip:
