Gladiolus ‘Purple Flora’ brings real summer drama with tall, elegant flower spikes packed with richly coloured, velvety purple blooms. Each stem opens steadily from the bottom upwards, giving a long display that keeps on coming—perfect if you want weeks of colour rather than a single “flash” of flowers. It’s a brilliant choice for sunny borders, cutting gardens and patio containers, and it’s especially lovely woven through perennials and ornamental grasses where the flower spires add height and movement.
Gladioli are also one of the best-value summer bulbs: plant a few corms and you’ll get armfuls of cut flowers throughout mid to late summer. ‘Purple Flora’ is a showstopper in arrangements—its deep purple tones pair beautifully with whites, creams, pinks and lime greens, and the upright stems make it ideal for tall vases. Loved by pollinators too, it’s a great way to add colour and nectar when the garden is at its peak.
When to Plant:
Plant Gladiolus corms in spring once the risk of frost has passed—typically April to May. For a longer flowering season, plant in succession every 2 weeks up to early summer.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil. Gladioli thrive in fertile soil but dislike sitting in winter wet. Ideal for borders, cutting gardens and large containers. Taller varieties may benefit from shelter from strong winds.

Water after planting and keep the soil evenly moist during active growth. Gladioli in containers may need more frequent watering in warm weather, but avoid waterlogg
