Bring instant colour and elegance to your garden with our Iris Mixture — a gorgeous blend of irises chosen for their show-stopping blooms, rich colours and reliable performance. Irises are famous for their intricate, ruffled petals and striking “falls” (the lower petals), often marked with beautiful veining or a splash of contrasting colour that looks almost hand-painted.

This mix is ideal if you love surprises: you’ll get a varied display of tones that will brighten borders, cottage gardens and patio pots, and they’re also fantastic for cutting — a few stems in a vase look incredibly classy. Irises are also a brilliant plant for pollinators in spring and early summer, offering early nectar when bees are getting busy again.

Fun facts:

  • The name Iris comes from the Greek word for “rainbow” — very fitting for a mixed collection!
  • Irises are known for being tough and long-lived when planted in the right spot, often returning for years with little fuss.
  • Many irises have sword-like foliage that stays attractive even when not in flower, adding structure and a clean, architectural look.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in autumn for flowering the following spring/early summer, or in spring where conditions allow. Avoid planting when the soil is frozen or waterlogged.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position for the best flowering, in well-drained soil. Irises dislike sitting in winter wet, so they’re ideal for borders, gravel gardens, and containers. A sheltered spot helps protect the blooms and keeps stems looking their best.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs/rhizomes so the top sits about 5–10 cm below the soil surface (follow the natural shape of the bulb/rhizome—roots downwards).
  • Spacing: Space around 10–15 cm apart to allow clumps to develop.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with grit or sand for drainage. Avoid over-enriching with high nitrogen feeds, which can reduce flowering.

Watering:
Water well after planting. Keep soil
