Leucanthemum ‘Silver Princess’ is a wonderfully fresh, bright Shasta daisy that brings instant “summer garden” charm with masses of crisp white, daisy flowers and sunny yellow centres. Flowering over a long period, it forms a neat, clump-forming plant with sturdy stems that hold the blooms well for cutting—perfect for vases as well as borders. It’s a fantastic perennial for pollinators, easy to grow, and ideal for creating that classic cottage-garden look, while still fitting beautifully into modern, prairie-style schemes too.

As well as being a real workhorse in the border, Shasta daisies are known for their excellent garden performance: they’re hardy, reliable year after year, and often flower more freely when regularly deadheaded. ‘Silver Princess’ is especially good planted in drifts, where the white flowers “lift” surrounding colours and make other blooms pop. It also pairs brilliantly with Salvias, Nepeta, Achillea, ornamental grasses and roses.

Did you know? Leucanthemum is often called the Shasta daisy because early hybrids were developed to combine strong stems, larger flowers and reliable flowering—making them a favourite for both gardeners and florists.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring or autumn, while the soil is moist and workable.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun (light shade is tolerated) with well-drained, reasonably fertile soil. Leucanthemum is ideal for mixed borders, cottage gardens, pollinator-friendly planting, and cutting gardens. Avoid very wet ground in winter.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant so the top of the compost is level with the surrounding soil.
  • Spacing: Space 35–45 cm (14–18 inches) apart to allow good air circulation and a fuller clump.
  • Soil Prep: Mix in a little garden compost if your soil is very light or sandy, but avoid over-feeding—too much nitrogen can produce lush leaves with fewer flowers.

Watering:
Water well after planting and keep watered during the first growing season. Once established, plants are fairly tolerant, but they will flower best if watered during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage repeat flowering and keep the plant tidy.
  • Cut back stems after flowering, or leave a little structure and cut back in late autumn or early spring.
  • Divide clumps every 2–3 years in spring or autumn to maintain vigour and improve flowering.

Top Tip:
For a really long display, deadhead frequently and pick flowers for the vase—Leucanthemum ‘Silver Princess’ is an excellent cut flower. Plant in groups for maximum impact and that classic “daisy drift” look.
