Radiant, elegant and wonderfully easy to grow, Iris hollandica 'Golden Harvest' produces glowing golden-yellow flowers that bring warmth and sunshine to the late spring and early summer garden.

One of the finest yellow Dutch Irises, 'Golden Harvest' bears beautifully formed blooms with rich buttercup-yellow standards and broad golden falls, each highlighted by a deeper golden-orange signal that attracts bees and other pollinating insects. The flowers are held proudly on tall, slender stems above neat, sword-like foliage, adding both height and graceful movement to borders.

Dutch Irises have been favourites of gardeners and florists for over a century, prized for their refined flowers, strong stems and outstanding vase life. 'Golden Harvest' is particularly valuable for introducing bright, cheerful colour into mixed borders, where it combines beautifully with blue alliums, purple salvias, white peonies and ornamental grasses.

Perfect for cutting gardens, sunny borders and patio planting, this reliable variety flowers freely year after year with very little attention, making it an excellent choice for both experienced gardeners and beginners alike.

A brilliant Dutch Iris that lights up the garden with its rich golden blooms and timeless elegance.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Dutch Iris bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, while the soil is still warm enough for roots to establish before winter.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Dutch Irises thrive in borders, gravel gardens and cutting gardens where they receive plenty of sunlight.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 10–12 cm (4–5 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 10 cm (4 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve heavy soils with grit or sharp sand to improve drainage. Incorporate compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Once established, Dutch Irises need very little additional watering except during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser after flowering to encourage strong bulbs for the following year.
  • Leave bulbs undisturbed where possible to establish larger clumps over time.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Golden Harvest' with blue Dutch Irises, purple alliums or deep violet salvias for a striking colour contrast that will brighten the late spring garden.
