Vibrant, cheerful and wonderfully fragrant, Freesia Double Orange produces sumptuous double flowers in glowing shades of rich orange, apricot and tangerine, bringing warmth and energy to summer borders and containers.

The fully double blooms are packed with layers of ruffled petals, giving each flower a luxurious appearance while retaining the exquisite sweet citrus fragrance for which Freesias are famous. Multiple blooms are carried along each elegant stem, opening gradually to provide weeks of colour and perfume both in the garden and as cut flowers.

Originating from South Africa, Freesias have long been treasured by gardeners and florists alike for their beauty, fragrance and exceptional vase life. The vivid colouring of Double Orange makes it particularly effective in hot summer planting schemes, where it combines beautifully with reds, yellows, purples and deep blues.

Perfect for containers, patio displays, borders and cutting gardens, this striking variety fills the air with fragrance while providing a dazzling display of colour throughout the summer months.

A superb choice for gardeners seeking both scent and vibrant summer colour.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Freesia corms in spring, once the risk of severe frost has passed and the soil begins to warm.

Where to Plant:
Choose a warm, sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil. Freesias are ideal for borders, raised beds, containers and patio pots.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant corms approximately 5 cm (2 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space corms about 5–8 cm (2–3 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Incorporate compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting. In heavy soils, add grit to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water after planting and keep the soil lightly moist while growth develops. Water regularly during dry spells but avoid waterlogging.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Feed every 2–3 weeks during active growth with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
  • Provide support if growing in exposed positions.
  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
  • In colder areas, lift corms before winter and store in a cool, dry, frost-free place.

Top Tip:
Plant near patios, pathways or entrances where both the vibrant colour and wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed every day.
