Soft, delicate and unlike any traditional grape hyacinth, Muscari 'Baby's Breath' (also known as 'Jenny Robinson') produces beautifully dense flower spikes in the gentlest shades of powder blue, creating an ethereal display that perfectly captures the freshness of spring.
This exceptional British selection was discovered by the renowned plantswoman Jenny Robinson and has become one of the most sought-after Muscari cultivars. Unlike the familiar deep royal-blue varieties, 'Baby's Breath' opens with distinctive lime-green buds that gradually mature into closely packed florets of soft icy blue. Towards the top of each flower spike, the blooms gently fade to almost pure white, creating a beautiful ombré effect that gives the plant remarkable depth and elegance.
Flowering in early to mid-spring, the pastel blooms are lightly fragrant and highly attractive to bees and other early pollinating insects. The neat clumps of slender green foliage provide the perfect backdrop to the flowers, while the bulbs naturalise readily, forming increasingly impressive drifts with very little attention.
Equally at home in borders, alpine gardens, containers and beneath deciduous trees, 'Baby's Breath' combines beautifully with white narcissus, pale tulips, blue Anemones and dwarf irises, adding a sophisticated softness to spring planting schemes.
A truly exquisite grape hyacinth whose subtle colouring makes it one of the most elegant Muscari available.
