Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant throughout spring or autumn when the soil is workable and not frozen or waterlogged. Spring planting allows plants to establish quickly ready for summer flowering.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil. This collection is perfect for cottage garden borders, pollinator-friendly planting schemes, patio containers and mixed perennial beds.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant each variety so the top of the rootball sits level with the soil surface.
  • Spacing: Space plants approximately 30–45 cm (12–18 inches) apart depending on variety and desired effect.
  • Soil Prep: Improve soil with garden compost or organic matter. In heavier soils, add grit to improve drainage, particularly for lavender.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil lightly moist while plants establish. Once established, most varieties are relatively drought tolerant, though watering during prolonged dry spells will encourage better flowering.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead faded flowers regularly to encourage repeat blooming.
  • Trim lavender lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape.
  • Support taller Lupins if planting in exposed areas.
  • Apply a mulch in spring to retain moisture and encourage healthy growth.

Top Tip:
Plant in informal drifts or groups for a relaxed cottage garden effect filled with colour, fragrance and pollinator activity throughout summer.
