Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring or autumn when the soil is workable. Avoid planting during periods of hard frost or into waterlogged soil.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny, open position with well-drained soil. This collection is perfect for hot borders, prairie-style planting, gravel gardens and wildlife-friendly schemes.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant so the top of the rootball sits level with the soil surface.
  • Spacing: Space plants approximately 40–50 cm (16–20 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve soil with garden compost. In heavy soils, add grit or sharp sand to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil lightly moist while plants establish. Once established, these perennials are relatively drought tolerant, though watering during long dry spells will encourage continued flowering.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead regularly to encourage more blooms throughout summer.
  • Cut back faded stems in autumn or early spring.
  • Divide mature clumps every few years to maintain vigour and flowering performance.

Top Tip:
Plant together in drifts for a bold, glowing display of reds, golds and warm terracotta tones that will shine throughout summer.
