Narcissus ‘Pistachio’ is a refined and enchanting cultivar, bringing an unexpected and elegant twist to the classic daffodil. With its distinctive colouring—a soft, almost creamy yellow perianth encircling a ruffled, pistachio-tinged cup—this variety offers a fresh, contemporary aesthetic that stands out in both borders and bouquets. Its understated beauty has captivated gardeners and florists alike, earning it a place among the most desirable of the split-corona types.

Introduced in recent years by visionary Dutch breeders with a passion for innovation, ‘Pistachio’ is a testament to how tradition and modern breeding can unite to create something truly extraordinary. It flowers in mid to late spring, standing tall and proud on sturdy stems, with blooms that seem to glow in the soft light of April.

Whether planted in drifts for a painterly effect, mixed with other soft pastels for a calming scheme, or grown for cutting to bring indoors, Narcissus ‘Pistachio’ never fails to spark admiration. A future classic in the making, and an exquisite addition to any garden that values poise, beauty, and a hint of the unexpected.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the first hard frosts.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-drained soil. Avoid areas prone to waterlogging, as narcissus bulbs dislike sitting in wet ground.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs at a depth of about 2–3 times the height of the bulb (typically 10–15cm deep).
  • Spacing: Leave around 10–15cm between bulbs to allow for growth and natural spreading.
  • Position: Plant with the pointed end facing upwards.

Aftercare:

  • Water in well after planting and keep moist during dry spells while in growth.
  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering—this helps feed the bulb for the following year.
  • Bulbs can remain in the ground and will often naturalise over time, returning year after year with minimal attention.
