Each order is for one Hippeastrum Waxz ‘Fashionz Silly’. Please note: the decorative Christmas sock it is supplied in is assorted, so colours and designs are sent at random and cannot be individually selected.
For instant Christmas cheer with absolutely no effort, our Hippeastrum in festive socks and wax-coated bulbs are hard to beat. These ingenious bulbs arrive “ready to go” – there’s no potting, no compost and not even any watering required. Every bulb has all the energy it needs already stored inside, so as soon as you bring them into your home they are poised to grow.
Simply place them in a bright position at normal room temperature – a windowsill, mantelpiece, coffee table or dining table centre – and they will quietly get on with the job. Within a few weeks, sturdy stems will emerge, followed by large, luxurious blooms in rich, seasonal colours that look as if you’ve spent hours planning your display.
The knitted Christmas “socks” add a cosy, playful touch, while the wax-coated bulbs have a more contemporary, sculptural feel – both styles make wonderful gifts. There’s no mess, no need to remember to water, and once they arrive they need nothing more than a good spot to show themselves off.
Whether you’re dressing the house for Christmas, sending a thoughtful present to someone special, or simply treating yourself, these no-fuss Hippeastrum are a beautifully simple way to bring a little extra magic, warmth and colour into the darkest months of the year.

How to Care for Hippeastrum in Socks & Wax-Coated Bulbs
These special Hippeastrum are wonderfully simple to look after – almost everything they need is already stored inside the bulb. Just give them the right spot and they will do the rest.
Light & Position
- Place your bulb in a bright position indoors, out of direct scorching sunlight.
- A windowsill, mantelpiece or table in a warm, light room is ideal.
- Turn the bulb every few days so the stem grows straight rather than leaning towards the light.
Temperature
- Hippeastrum are happiest at normal room temperature (18–22°C).
- Avoid placing them directly above radiators, right beside a wood burner, or in a very draughty spot, as extreme heat or cold can shorten the flowering period.
Watering
- Wax-coated bulbs: these are completely self-contained – do not water at all. The wax seal means the bulb cannot take in extra moisture, and everything it needs is already stored inside.
- Bulbs in festive socks: these are usually pre-prepared and also require little or no watering. If the base feels extremely dry after several weeks, you can very lightly dampen the roots, but take care not to overdo it – too much moisture can cause rot. In most cases, no watering is needed.
Flowering Time & Height
- Once brought into a warm, bright room, allow around 6–8 weeks from first showing to flowering (though this can vary slightly with temperature).
- Sturdy stems will rise first, followed by large, dramatic trumpet flowers at the top.
- Stems typically reach around 40–60 cm (16–24") high, depending on variety and room conditions.
- Many bulbs will produce more than one stem, giving a succession of flowers over several weeks.
After Flowering – What Happens Next?
- When the flowers fade, simply snip off the spent blooms to keep things neat.
- For wax-coated bulbs, the wax layer prevents the bulb from growing on in the usual way, so they are generally treated as a one-season decorative display.
- For bulbs in festive socks, once flowering has finished you can carefully remove any decorative covering and, if there is a small root system and basal plate intact, try potting the bulb up in compost as you would a normal Hippeastrum. There is no guarantee of reflowering (they have used a lot of stored energy), but with bright light, feeding and patience they may build up again over time.
Safety
- As with all Hippeastrum (Amaryllis), the bulbs are not edible. Keep them out of reach of pets and children who might be tempted to investigate.
