One of the earliest snowdrops to flower, often appearing from January through March. Its elegant, nodding white blooms, larger and broader than many of its cousins, are marked with distinctive green inner markings and exude a quiet charm even on the coldest days. The grey-green foliage is broad and substantial, forming a beautiful foil for the pristine flowers.Native to the mountains of Turkey, this snowdrop thrives in cooler climates and prefers partial shade beneath deciduous trees or in lightly shaded borders where the winter light can reach it before the canopy closes.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:
Plant as soon as possible after delivery, ideally between September and November, while the soil is still warm.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in dappled shade or light sun – ideal beneath deciduous trees or at the front of borders. Galanthus elwesii thrives in well-drained but moisture-retentive soil that is rich in organic matter.

How to Plant:

  • Plant bulbs 7–10 cm deep (roughly three times the bulb's height).
  • Space bulbs about 8–10 cm apart.
  • Ensure the pointed end faces upwards.
  • Water well after planting.

Aftercare:
Keep the area moist during their growing season but avoid waterlogging. Once established, they will naturalise and increase in number. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulb for the next season.

Note:
These bulbs are lifted and stored in a dormant state, like most spring-flowering species, and are ready to root once planted – do not delay.
