Elegant, distinctive and highly sought after by snowdrop enthusiasts, Galanthus 'Green Brush' is a remarkable variety celebrated for its unusual green markings that appear to have been delicately painted onto the outer petals with a fine artist's brush.

Unlike traditional snowdrops, whose outer petals are pure white, 'Green Brush' displays graceful green feathering that varies slightly from flower to flower, making each bloom beautifully unique. The flowers are complemented by neat grey-green foliage and gently nod on slender stems, bringing subtle beauty and interest to the late winter garden.

Discovered as a naturally occurring selection of Galanthus elwesii, this charming cultivar has become a favourite amongst collectors while remaining wonderfully easy to grow. Flowering from late winter into early spring, the elegant blooms provide one of the first valuable nectar sources for bees emerging on mild days.

Perfect for woodland gardens, shaded borders, beneath deciduous trees, rock gardens and containers, 'Green Brush' gradually develops into attractive clumps that become increasingly impressive each year. Its unusual colouring makes it particularly rewarding when planted near paths or entrances where the intricate markings can be admired up close.

A beautiful collector's snowdrop that combines rarity, elegance and excellent garden performance.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Galanthus bulbs in autumn (September–November), or plant "in the green" immediately after flowering in late winter or early spring for the quickest establishment.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in partial shade or dappled woodland shade with moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil. 'Green Brush' is ideal beneath deciduous trees, woodland gardens, shady borders, rock gardens and naturalised planting schemes.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs around 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve the soil with leaf mould, compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting to retain moisture while ensuring good drainage.

Watering:
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Once established, rainfall is normally sufficient, although snowdrops appreciate moist soil while actively growing.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following year.
  • Lift and divide mature clumps every 4–5 years after flowering if they become overcrowded.
  • Apply a light mulch of compost or leaf mould each autumn to maintain healthy, vigorous plants.

Top Tip:
Plant 'Green Brush' close to paths, patios or doorways where its beautifully feathered green markings can be admired up close during the late winter months.
