Lilium ‘Salmon Party’ is a gorgeous compact Oriental lily that brings a real “summer celebration” vibe to borders and pots. The blooms open in soft apricot and salmon-pink shades, often with an orange central stripe and speckling, creating a warm, sunset look that pairs beautifully with whites, purples, airy grasses and cottage-garden favourites. Because it stays shorter and sturdier than many lilies, it’s ideal for containers, the front of the border, or anywhere you want bold colour without the plant towering over everything else.

Flowering through July and August, it’s a brilliant way to keep the garden looking fresh as summer rolls on, and it’s also a lovely cut flower for vases. Many listings also note it as fragrant—perfect for planting near seating areas where you’ll catch the scent.

Pet note: True lilies (Lilium) are highly toxic to cats—keep bulbs, flowers and pollen out of reach.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant bulbs in autumn (ideal) or from autumn to spring, avoiding times when the ground is frozen or waterlogged.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in sun or partial shade with well-drained soil. Lilies dislike sitting in winter wet, so drainage is key. Lilium ‘Salmon Party’ is especially good for pots and containers as well as borders and cutting beds.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs around 15–20 cm deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 20–45 cm apart (closer for a fuller clump, wider for maximum airflow).
  • Soil Prep: If your soil is heavy, add horticultural grit to improve drainage and mix in a little garden compost for moisture-holding during summer growth.

Watering:
Water in well after planting. Keep soil lightly moist as shoots appear and during dry spells in summer, but avoid waterlogging.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Apply a mulch in spring to conserve moisture and keep roots cool.
  • Deadhead spent flowers, but leave the stems and foliage until they yellow naturally to feed the bulb for next year.
  • Watch for common lily pests such as red lily beetle on new growth.

Top Tip:
For a really luxurious look, plant Lilium ‘Salmon Party’ in groups and combine with silvery foliage, whites and soft purples. In pots, use a deep container and keep watering steady once growth starts.
