Triteleia ‘Rudy’ is a wonderfully elegant early-summer bloomer, producing loose umbels of up to 25 funnel-shaped white flowers, each one beautifully detailed with bold violet-blue stripes down the centre of every petal—like fine brushstrokes. The blooms sit on slender, upright stems above narrow, grey-green, grass-like foliage, making it perfect for weaving through sunny borders, gravel gardens, and pots. It’s also a brilliant cut flower, giving a light, airy look in small vases and mixed arrangements.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant corms in autumn for the best results, or in early spring if you’re planting later. In colder or wetter gardens, pots can be a great option to help avoid winter wet.

Where to Plant:
Choose a spot in full sun or partial shade with light, sandy or fertile, well-drained soil. Triteleia dislikes sitting in cold, wet ground, so good drainage is essential. Ideal for mixed borders, gravel gardens, naturalistic planting, and pots and containers.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant corms around 8 cm deep, with the pointed end upwards.
  • Spacing: Space corms 10–15 cm apart (a little closer in pots for a fuller display).
  • Soil Prep: If your soil is heavy, mix in horticultural grit to improve drainage. A little garden compost helps establishment, but avoid waterlogging.

Watering:
Water in after planting. Keep soil lightly moist while in growth (spring to early summer). After flowering, allow the soil to become drier as the corms go dormant.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead spent flowers, but allow foliage to die back naturally to feed the corms for next year.
  • In very wet winters, consider growing in pots or adding a light winter mulch to help protect from excessive wet and frost.
  • Lift and divide clumps every few years if they become congested.

Top Tip:
Plant Triteleia ‘Rudy’ in small drifts so the white blooms with violet-blue stripes create a soft, sparkling effect through early summer. It looks lovely alongside ornamental grasses, Alliums, and cottage-garden perennials.
