Digitalis purpurea ‘Foxy Mix’ brings all the charm and drama of traditional foxgloves, but with a delightful twist. Unlike many varieties that keep gardeners waiting, this carefully bred mix will flower in its very first year, offering towers of enchanting bell-shaped blooms from an early stage. Each tall spire is clothed in blossoms ranging from soft blush pinks and creams to rich rose and lilac tones, their throats delicately freckled to entice bees and other pollinators. Compact and branching, ‘Foxy Mix’ grows with a naturally graceful form, making it perfect for smaller gardens, mixed borders, or cottage-style plantings where space is at a premium. It is equally striking as a centrepiece or woven among perennials for height and contrast. Romantic yet practical, this mix delivers both beauty and reliability, ensuring a season-long display of colour that captures the very essence of a quintessential English summer garden.

Planting Instructions

Digitalis purpurea ‘Foxy Mix’ is a compact and early-flowering strain of foxglove, producing elegant spires in a range of soft shades — pink, cream, and purple, all speckled with a darker throat. Loved by pollinators, especially bees, it’s perfect for cottage gardens, borders, and wildlife-friendly planting schemes.

When to Plant:
Plant young plants in spring or early autumn. If sowing seed, sow indoors in late winter to spring, or directly outdoors in late spring to early summer.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Foxgloves thrive in lightly shaded borders and woodland-style plantings.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant so the crown is level with the soil surface.
  • Spacing: 30–45 cm (12–18 inches) apart to allow flower spikes to develop.
  • Tip: Water well after planting to help roots establish.

Aftercare:
Water regularly during dry periods in the first season. Remove spent flower spikes to encourage a longer display. Allow some seed heads to ripen if you’d like plants to self-seed naturally. Cut back old stems and foliage in late autumn to keep clumps tidy.

Top Tip:
Plant ‘Foxy Mix’ in groups through the border for maximum impact — and place them where you can enjoy watching bees visiting the flowers all summer long.

⚠️ Note: All parts of Digitalis are toxic if ingested and can irritate skin — handle with care.
