An exceptional modern snowdrop with unmistakable character, Galanthus elwesii 'Beluga' is admired for its beautifully rounded flowers and elegant, sculptural form. Larger than many traditional snowdrops, it produces graceful nodding blooms with broad, cupped outer petals of the purest white, giving each flower a wonderfully full appearance.
Named after the graceful Beluga whale, this distinctive cultivar is instantly recognisable by the striking green marking on its inner petals, said to resemble a heart with a whale's tail. Combined with its broad, greyish-green foliage inherited from Galanthus elwesii, it is one of the most elegant snowdrops to flower in late winter.
Flowering from February into March, 'Beluga' provides a welcome source of nectar for bees emerging on mild winter days. Its robust nature makes it ideal for naturalising beneath deciduous trees, woodland gardens, shady borders and along pathways, where the increasing clumps create a spectacular late winter display.
Easy to grow and exceptionally reliable, Galanthus elwesii 'Beluga' is a superb choice for both collectors and gardeners looking for a snowdrop with real individuality.
