Bright, cheerful and full of spring warmth, Narcissus 'Red Devon' is a striking Large-Cupped Daffodil (RHS Division 2) that combines soft yellow petals with a beautifully ruffled orange-red trumpet.

Each elegant bloom features broad light to lemon-yellow petals that frame a vivid orange-red cup, creating a vibrant contrast that becomes even richer as the flowers mature. The deeply frilled trumpet gives the blooms added texture and movement, making this variety particularly eye-catching in borders and containers.

Flowering in mid-spring, 'Red Devon' produces sturdy, weather-resistant blooms that stand proudly above fresh green foliage. It is lightly fragrant and makes an excellent cut flower, bringing weeks of colour indoors as well as in the garden.

Like all daffodils, 'Red Devon' is exceptionally hardy and easy to grow, returning reliably each spring and gradually increasing into generous clumps. It looks particularly spectacular planted alongside blue Muscari, purple Tulips or white Narcissus varieties, where its glowing orange-red trumpet creates a wonderful focal point.

A vibrant and dependable daffodil that brings warmth, elegance and classic spring beauty to every garden.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant Narcissus bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, before the ground freezes and while the soil remains workable.

Where to Plant:
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Daffodils thrive in borders, containers, lawns, orchards and beneath deciduous trees.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant bulbs approximately 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) deep.
  • Spacing: Space bulbs about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) apart.
  • Soil Prep: Improve poor soils with compost or well-rotted organic matter. Add grit to heavy clay soils to improve drainage.

Watering:
Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. During spring, water only during prolonged dry periods.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Allow foliage to die back naturally for at least six weeks after flowering.
  • Remove spent flower heads to prevent seed production.
  • Feed after flowering with a balanced fertiliser to encourage strong bulbs for the following spring.

Top Tip:
Plant with blue Muscari or deep purple Tulips to make the brilliant orange-red trumpet really stand out.
