Echinacea ‘Sombrero Rose’ is a gorgeous coneflower that brings rich, warm colour to the garden from midsummer right through into autumn. It produces rose-pink blooms with a bold central cone, standing tall and proud above sturdy stems—perfect for adding reliable, long-lasting colour to sunny borders. It’s a real favourite with bees and butterflies, and if you leave some seed heads to mature, it can also provide valuable food for birds later in the year.

Supplied in a 2 litre pot, ‘Sombrero Rose’ is a strong, well-established plant that will settle in quickly and return year after year, gradually forming a generous clump. It’s also excellent for cutting—fresh stems look fantastic in arrangements, and the seed heads add lovely texture to autumn and winter displays.

Planting Instructions

When to Plant:

Plant in spring or autumn, while the soil is moist and workable. Container-grown plants can be planted at most times of year, but avoid frozen or waterlogged ground.

Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil. Echinacea thrives in mixed borders, prairie-style planting and wildlife-friendly gardens. Once established it is fairly drought tolerant, but it flowers best with plenty of sun and free-draining ground.

How to Plant:

  • Depth: Plant at the same depth as in the pot, with the crown level with the soil surface.
  • Spacing: Space 35–45 cm (14–18 inches) apart to allow plants to bulk up and improve airflow.
  • Soil Prep: Mix in a little compost to help the plant establish. Avoid overly rich soil, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

Watering:
Water well after planting. Keep watered during the first growing season while roots establish. After that, water only during prolonged dry spells.

Aftercare Tips:

  • Deadhead regularly to encourage more blooms.
  • Leave some seed heads to mature for birds and winter interest.
  • Cut back stems in late winter or early spring before new growth starts.
  • Divide clumps every 3–4 years if needed to maintain vigour.

Top Tip:
Echinacea ‘Sombrero Rose’ looks stunning with ornamental grasses and soft purples—try pairing with Salvias, Nepeta or Verbena for an easy, pollinator-friendly summer border.
