Gaillardia ‘Flamenco’ is a real showstopper – a long-flowering blanket flower that pumps out masses of bold, daisy-like blooms in fiery sunset shades of red, orange and gold. Each flower has that warm, “painted” look that instantly lifts a border, and because it flowers for such a long period it’s brilliant value in the garden (and in a pot!). The blooms sit neatly above tidy, mid-green foliage and keep coming for months, making it perfect for sunny borders, wildlife-friendly beds and hot, dry spots where other plants might sulk.
As well as being a colour powerhouse, Gaillardia is well known for being pollinator friendly – bees and butterflies love it – and it’s also a fantastic cut flower, giving you vibrant stems for indoor vases. Another great fact: Gaillardia is naturally heat and drought tolerant once established, so it’s a top pick for gravel gardens, coastal gardens, and low-maintenance summer planting. For the best display, plant in groups and deadhead regularly – it will reward you with waves of flowers right through to autumn.
When to Plant:
Plant in spring or autumn, while the soil is moist and workable.
Where to Plant:
Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil. Gaillardia thrives in light, free-draining soils and is drought tolerant once established. Ideal for mixed borders, hot, sunny beds, gravel gardens, coastal gardens, or pots and containers.
How to Plant:
Watering:
Water well after planting. Once established, Gaillardia is low-maintenance and drought-resistant, needing only occasional watering during prolonged dry spells (container plants will need more regular watering).
